Overview

All therapy sessions on Therapistreet are conducted via Zoom video calls. This guide will help you prepare for your sessions and resolve common technical issues.

System Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • Stable internet connection (at least 1.5 Mbps upload/download)
  • Webcam (built-in or external)
  • Microphone and speakers or a headset
  • Windows 10+, macOS 10.13+, or a modern Linux distribution
  • Or mobile device: iOS 12+ or Android 8.0+

Recommended:

  • Wired internet connection or strong Wi-Fi signal
  • Headphones with a built-in microphone for clearer audio
  • HD webcam for improved video quality
  • Latest version of Zoom installed

Getting Started

Step 1: Install Zoom

Download Zoom from zoom.us/download

You may also join via a web browser without installing the app, although the desktop app offers better performance.

Step 2: Test Your Setup

Before your first session, test your audio and video:

  • Open Zoom and go to Settings β†’ Video to test your camera
  • Go to Settings β†’ Audio to test your microphone and speakers
  • Or visit zoom.us/test to join a test meeting

Step 3: Join Your Session

You will receive a meeting link via email before your appointment. Simply click the link at the scheduled time to join.

We recommend joining 2–3 minutes early to ensure everything is functioning correctly.

Privacy and Security

  • Waiting Room: Your therapist may use a waiting room for confidentiality. You will be admitted once they are ready.
  • End-to-End Encryption: Sessions may be encrypted for enhanced security.
  • Private Environment: Please attend sessions from a quiet, private location where you will not be disturbed.
  • Recording: Sessions are NOT recorded unless you and your therapist explicitly agree.

Troubleshooting

  • Ensure Zoom has camera permissions in your device settings
  • Select a different camera in Zoom Settings β†’ Video
  • Restart Zoom or your computer
  • Update Zoom to the latest version

🎀 Audio Issues

  • Ensure Zoom has microphone permissions
  • Select the correct microphone/speaker in Zoom Settings β†’ Audio
  • Use the β€œTest Speaker & Microphone” option
  • Try using headphones to prevent echo
  • Mute/unmute to reset the audio connection

🌐 Connection Problems

  • Check your internet speed
  • Move closer to your Wi-Fi router or use a wired connection
  • Close applications that consume bandwidth
  • Turn off your video if the connection is weak
  • Restart your router if the issue continues

  • Confirm you are using the correct meeting link
  • Try pasting the link directly into your browser
  • Ensure Zoom is not blocked by your firewall or network
  • Contact your therapist if the issue persists

Tips for a Great Session

  • Lighting: Sit facing a window or light source for better visibility.
  • Background: Choose a tidy, non-distracting background or use a virtual background.
  • Camera Position: Keep the camera at eye level for a natural conversation.
  • Minimise Distractions: Silence notifications and close unnecessary applications.
  • Have Water Nearby: Keep hydrated throughout your session.
  • Test in Advance: Join 5 minutes early to resolve any technical issues.
